Working with Family of Origin

The relationship between professionals, foster parents and birth family can play a key role in successful reunification, or aid in a more successful adoption process. It is critical that all involved have the skills to communicate effectively with the child’s key relatives. This training will focus on building communication skills and also enhance the participants’ understanding of the impact of trauma on parenting, and the birth parent grief process.

Attachment: Beyond Infancy

Attachment is the foundation of all relationships, and when caring for children with a history of trauma and trust issues, it does not always occur easily. Trauma Informed Care: Connections & Healing

Children (like adults) often define themselves through their connections. If they have been moved often, pulled from those they are connected and attached to, is it any wonder they feel and act fragmented from their lives? This in turn potentially opens the door for further trauma and disconnection. This Trauma Informed training discusses ways for caregivers and professionals to help a child develop connections, offers practical tips on communicating about trauma and helps the child build a strength-based understanding of their personal story.

Trauma & Discipline in Foster Care & early Adoption

We all need discipline in our lives to function well in society. For youth especially, discipline helps provide needed boundaries for safety and security. How does a caregiver provide consequences to a child who is not attached or bonded to them, and has significant trauma in their lives? This training discusses this topic with ideas and tips, as well as an overview of why children with traumatic history can be so challenging! Part of the material developed by NCTSN (National Child Traumatic Stress Network).
